Allegations of research fraud at Macquarie University

REVISED STATEMENT

On 28 December The Age and the SMH published an article about research discrepancies at Macquarie University.  The University is considering whether to investigate allegations of research misconduct after concerns were raised about the accuracy of a number of papers published by researchers affiliated with the Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research.

MND Australia CEO David Ali stated MND Research Australia has funded MND research at the Centre.  “However, we understand that none of the papers being questioned are on MND research and none have been funded by MND Research Australia,” Mr Ali said.

“This is a serious issue and I note that the accusations from two websites which purport to identify systemic scientific fraud, are currently being considered by Macquarie University.”

“As matters of research integrity are the province of the institution, in the first instance, we should await the outcomes of the University’s considerations.”
